Second Try

The Steffens are giving it another go on adding a dog to the family. I have met "Memphis" and have to say, I approve of this dog. It's calm, it doesn't jump, it doesn't run away, and it puts up with 5 boys hanging on it all at once. So far, so good!

To the FIVE BOYS: Enjoy the dog!!!
To the TWO PARENTS: Up the grocery budget about 15%!!!
One thing about Nogblog's comment hit home with me--the dog doesn't jump on you. Hallelujah. Such jumping has always been a hindrance to me.

Don't like dogs jumping on me (and trying to lick me) either! Matter of fact, don't much like dogs period - except Addie.

What matters here is that those five boys will love that dog. Looks like they're bonding quickly.

You can tell Lynn, Ada and I are siblings. I just plain don't like dogs, and I sure don't like them jumping on me. I can truthfully say I am afraid of dogs.
I can remember walking home from downtown in Gridley and never walking in front of Tanton's house for fear the dog would see me and come running out.
Good for you Shelley for giving it another try for your boys.
The only pet Larry had was a rabbit.

He looks like a really nice dog! I'm happy for the boys. Thanks for the pictures.

GREAT KUDOS for Shelley for doing this.

I told Mike if we ever had a third child, I'd have to stay home and not teach any more. Well, a dog was like a third child that did not qualify for the ultimatum.

Hope the boys keep up with the "We'll take care of it!" promise better than my kids did!

Having said that, we had a really sweet dog for the 11 years she was with us.

Looks like a nice dog. I agree with Aunts Ada and Alice, however. Most dogs I observe are fire dogs -- they help locate hydrants. The boys should enjoy this one!

I must admit I have been enjoying our dog-free time around here. But the boys (especially the biggest boy) have been begging to get another dog. I held off as long as I could.

Last week we saw an ad in the paper for a 4-year old Lab. We went to see it and as soon as we stepped in the yard the dog started RUNNING back and forth, back and forth. When the owners tried to bring him over for us to see him, he started JUMPING and jumping. The boys really wanted to like him, but I could tell they were intimidated by him. I knew that getting that dog would be picking up right where we left off with the old dog.

So we left with an empty dog cage and some disappointed kids. A few phone calls later we learned that a relative had a 6-month old dog they were trying to find a home for. He was very calm and laid back. We brought him home that night.

He is very docile, he doesn't jump, bite, or get too wound up. The boys absolutely love him and so far he seems to enjoy their attention. It's going far better than I ever could have imagined... but it's only been 4 days. We shall see!
