Updates

Okay - it's time for an update. I'm sure this is not comprehensive, but I'm listing a few things you've mentioned in the past that I would like to be updated on!

Jamie - how are you and your family? I hope you received the package. AFTER I sealed it I realized I forgot to include a note. We've prayed for you and hope the situation is easing. Please let us know if we can do anything for you.

Judy - how are your sleeping habits? If I eat a small snack before bed I think of you.

Drake - are you ready to start on your next boat?

Eric - whatever happened with the guy who didn't show up for the interview?

Jen - how is your business going?

Uncle Jerry and Aunt Ada - what projects do you have going?

Uncle Perry - how is your recovery going?

Rhoda - how did your garden turn out?

and

Aunt Alice - DID YOU GET ANY POTATOES???

Please feel free to update even if not listed here. Loved the photos of Aunt Catherine!

My schedule has been so full, working lots of shifts, running the combine for Dave, etc., that my sleeping issues haven't improved. I have, however, been just ignoring the pressure to sleep. I nap when I can, get a good night's sleep occasionally, don't worry if I'm up for extended periods of time, and roll with the flow.

I'm curious about everyone's updates, too!

Gas update - prices in Bloomington continue to fall. $2.98 this evening.

My garden report:

The garden is essentially done. Friday night was our first freeze so yesterday we picked the rest of the tomatoes. I dug the potatoes, but something went wrong and I found only about 10-12 small red potatoes. Maybe we waited too long to dig them, but we had been told we could leave them as long as we wanted. The only thing left is to pick the popcorn and hang it to dry. We'll do that tomorrow hopefully.

The garden overall was not a success this year although at the end we did get quite a few tomatoes and some peppers to make quite a bit of salsa. We also had quite a few beans. The potatoes, broccoli, squash, and okra however never really made.

Cleve, when do you manure your rhubarb?

Mary, good post as I've wondered some of these things as well.

We went to "the President's Own" United States Marine Band concert last night at Braden Auditorium. It was wonderful. The crowd was extremely responsive and actually got them to play an encore. They played God Bless America and everyone sang along. Of course, there was also the "tribute" to various branches of the military. Nobody was worrying about John or Sarah, or Barrack, or Joe -- it just felt good to be an American.

When we returned to Gridley, the BP station had gas posted at $2.89! We had filled up earlier in the day at $2.49.

Jerry's now off to breakfast with his buddies and I'm frantically getting ready for my big purse sale tomorrow. Charity will come over this afternoon to set up her Creative Memories items. We're hoping for a big turnout - and you're all welcome. I'll post some pictures later.

Mary--I want to add to Ada's post----I do not know if you knew---In January, we are going to take our turn staying at the AC/house/Church in Washington , DC

We picked Jan-09 because we will go to the parade and watch the new President swearing in on the steps of the US Capital----We contacted Senator Obama's Senate office and have a private tour of the Capital scheduled and are waiting for the time/date of our tour of the White House....While in DC, we plan to attend the Kennedy Center, historic sites....and everything else there is to see in the nation's capital.....then off to Florida for possiblily a shorter time than usual. We are excited and lookiing forward to going-----SO !!! When you watch the swearing in---look in the back ground for me holding a "Gridley" sign!! :) :) Jerry

The no show interview guy never called me back and wouldn't return my calls to him. So I've written him off. I have hired another guy who starts Monday.

Filled up with Gas on the way home from work tonight for $3.37. Rumor is that there are a couple stations as low as 3.29 but I haven't seen them yet.

Another update from our family. Retta and I enjoyed a double cheeseburger, fries and a sweet tea from McDonald's together last night. That's right, McDonald's.

McDonald’s said McDonald’s Vice President Richard Ellis has resigned his position on the board of NGLCC. McDonald’s also said that the company has no plans to renew their membership in NGLCC.

In an e-mail to McDonald’s franchised owners the company said, “It is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald’s remains neutral on same sex marriage or any ‘homosexual agenda’ as defined by the American Family Association.”

That's all we were asking for. EDK

We are giving a lot of them away. Sol Rassi mows our yard and we gave him 1/2 bushel. They really are delicious apples.
