Jake Update

Many of you were aware that Jake has been in need of cervical surgery on his neck. He finally had it done yesterday after many painful days and disheartening delays.

He was in surgery for 3 hours where they cleaned up the disc, and put in a cadaver bone and metal plate, which will all create a fusion as it heals. He came out of surgery with no pain in his shoulder, no numbness in his arm, and of course a sore throat and neck. I just talked to Malissa and she said he is doing great and is taking no pain pills. (There was a concern he would be addicted to the pain pills after 7 weeks of use of heavy narcotics.)
So all around, we are thanking the Lord for what has transpired so far, and we are praying for a quick, thorough recovery. He has to stay home from work for 10 days until he sees the doctor again, but his only restriction now is no lifting. He has no collar on and only a large bandaid covering the incision site. Modern medicine...what a miracle...once you can get it done!

(I only took one picture of Jake in the wheelchair getting ready to go home. He was feeling like you can imagine and looked it too, so I refrained from posting the picture. You can thank me, Jake!)

I'm right there with you, Jake. Had the same surgery in 2000. Kinda hard to think about them poking around in the back of your neck around your spinal cord!! Glad to hear it went well and hope your pain issues are completely resolved now.

Very glad for the good report. And that it finally got done! Who was Jake's surgeon? You all might know, or should know, that the very best neurosurgeon in Peoria is young Dr. Jeff Klopfenstein who comes originally from Pheonix, AZ. He's, I think, our 4th cousin once removed, or whatever (Uncle Lynn would know). Anyway, his surgery success rate is fantastic, per the authorities.

Jake--Aunt Mim and I wish you a speedy recovery; we will pray for you that you can deal with any discomfort.
And--Dr. Jeff Klopfenstein, Surgeon, Peoria, IL, is your half sixth cousin!!! I hear that he is an excellent surgeon!

"Half" means that you and Dr. Jeff have a common gggggrandpa but not a common gggggrandma! Michael remarried.
Great Family--The Ks.

Glad to hear that Jake finally had the surgery and is doing well. It's so amazing what those doctors can do! Does Jake and Malissa still live in Stanford?

Jake and Malissa bought an old farmhouse outside of Danvers. They love the country, with outdoor cats and chickens. They did sell the two fainting goats they had for awhile. If you've never seen fainting goats, youtube them. They actually do fall completely over when they are startled. However, as Jake's will tell you, they stink!

Judy is correct -- our medical system can really deliver; and healing is often the case. I am happy that Jake is doing well. I take it that Jake and family live near either Danvers or Stanford. In my day, there were high schools in those villages -- the Stanford Indians and the Danvers Dragons. They played in the McLean County basketball tournament which was held in the old McCormick Gym on the campus of the (then) ISNU campus.

Perry, you and Cleve may very well have been in Jake's house years ago when Bonnie Grusy Gerst lived there as a young member and had singings there. Some of our Gridley friends remember being there.
