Anyone have a good remedy for poison ivy? It's not as bad as I've had in the past but it is taking it's time running its course or so it seems. I've been using hydrocortisone creme and got some Ivy Dry today.
I'm really eckled by it!!! (How's that for a good Klopfenstein word?)--don't worry no pictures coming.

It must be kind of "alen-dic" for you, meaning a trial and a bit stressful. I hope you get over it. Will your have to go to the ER?

Thanks! Quite sure no ER visit will be necessary but some itch and discomfort relief would be nice.
I read on-line it can take up to 10 days after exposure to have symptoms so I'm not sure where I got it.
Zinc pills ground to a powder and made into a paste applied directly the affected areas. That's what we've always done when Retta gets it.

Ivy Dry has some zinc in it but I'm real happy 36 hours after starting it.
Wish your zinc treatment had been known when my kids were little. We made more than one trip to the doctor's office over the years, they got it so bad from time to time.
When we were first married I worked landscaping and spent a lot of time clearing woods in the "nice" neighborhoods in Peoria so they could sod their backyards. I'm not allergic to it, so I'd wade into it and tear it out. When Retta would wash my clothes, she'd get poison ivy. She was the nanny for Dr. Nayak at the time and Dr. recommended the Zinc treatment. Used it ever since (20 years now).
Andrew got it once when a neighbor was giving him a ride on a four-wheeler and they rode through the smoke of a fire where someone was burning poison ivy. One episode was so bad that his eyes swelled shut. Both kids and Mike are very allergic - I've never had a reaction.
BTW, are poison ivy and poison oak different names for essentially the same thing? I'm thinking they are. . .
Dr. Sam would have to give us the medical definition, but basically, yes, they are both allergic skin reactions to the poison from the plant.
As far as I know from reading there are similar reactions but they are different plants. Poison sumac is similar but grows in the South.

Oh mom, don't you remember when Retta and I first got married, I worked on the crew that laid sod until I started at ISU? I don't remember the name of the company, but got the job through Gloria's friend from Woodhill Towers I think.
