A Sad Time in SC

Yesterday morning we received the news that Mike's youngest sister had died suddenly. She was 47 and she has a 14 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. The service will be tomorrow, and Mike and his brother will be conducting it. The circumstances are very sad, and we would appreciate your prayers. Thank you.

Thanks so much. It's especially hard because she took her own life. I know God will sustain Mike and Steve this afternoon but it is going to be very difficult. There will be many people there who would never darken the door of a church, so they want to give the gospel. Here is a link to the obituary if you are interested. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for your prayers and sympathy. Mike got through his part just fine - he was very concerned that he wouldn't.

Suicide really adds a layer of sadness to a death. I was so proud of Mike in what he said yesterday as part of the service - He addressed the suicide. He said that from Jane is standing right now (we believe that she was a Christian as she did give testimony to that fact - Mike and I had both heard it)--Anyway, from where she is standing right now, he believes that she would tell us that she realizes that she gave up too soon, and that she caused much pain and sorrow to her family members left behind. He then reminded the people gathered that there is hope to get through life's problems - not in ourselves, but in the God who made us, loves us, and sent His son to redeem us - and we don't have to resort to what Jane did. Several people have commented on how they appreciated that.

And the sweetest moment to me was when Jane's daughter told her dad afterward, "I like what Mike said." I told Mike later that if he didn't do anything else, he comforted a ten year old girl, and really that's the best thing he could have done.

Our thoughts and prayers have been with you and the family for the past few days. So glad that the Lord gave Mike the words he needed to help comfort his family. And we'll continue the prayers.
