Fish

Mike had a doctor's physical at work yesterday and found out to his surprise that his cholesterol is up - not excessively, but above "normal" ranges. And the good cholesterol is down. So I am wondering - do any of you have any suggestions for a type of fish that a non-fish-lover could cook for him, and maybe even enjoy? And how do you prepare it in a way that you like it? Thanks.

Wish I could help you, but we are two non-fish lovers here. Jerry can barely stand the smell of fish and I can eat a mild white fsh if it's crusted and fried in oil or butter!!

Kind of a funny story - Jerry has NEVER taken a bite of fish or seafood as long as I've known him. BUT on Kelsie's birthday, we took her to one of those places where the chef cooks at the table and the first course was fried shrimp. When he finished them, he just placed about 3 shrimp on all our plates. Jerry and I kind of glanced at each other - and then, to my amazement, he picked one up and ate it! Actually ate all three!! and didn't gag or anything!!

Just proves that a grandpa will do anything for a granddaughter!!

Shrimp, scallops, we love - it's the flat kinds of fish that I don't care for at all. He likes fried flounder. But I figure it's time we try broiling various kinds of filets, and that's what I know nothing about.

We eat wild caught salmon that I get at Aldi's (it's much cheaper there.) I melt butter and lemon juice together and drizzle it on it before broiling it. It is quick and easy and tasty. It doesn't have a strong fish smell like some of the other kinds. ---Carol

We like tilapia - it is very mild. You can coat the filets lightly with a mixture of corn meal and seasonings you like and saute in a non-stick skillet using Pam cooking spray to give a more "fried" appearance and taste. I also use a recipe from Kara that is lemon baked tilapia that we love. If you're interested in that, Ann, I can email you the recipe.

We like baked tilapia. I usually just sprinkle some seasonings and bake for a few minutes in the oven and serve with rice and veggies.

I think Joey has done quite a bit grilling salmon. He probably has some ideas about seasonings.

I put tilapia on the George Foreman grill and sprinkle with paprika.
