Cooking and Baking Today

I've been using the Klopfenstein cookbook a lot lately. It's my only source for some recipes, including some of my own where the originals have been thrown away! Anyway, the banana bread recipe on p. 85 has gotten a lot of use here lately, and I'm going to be making three loaves of it today - one for Mary Lee, one for a family that's had a death, and one for us. I've been resisting Judy's caramel nut rolls recipe for about six weeks now, and so far have been successful.

So, even though this was discussed a year and a half ago, thanks to Shelley's post here, have you been using the cookbook lately? Or cooking or baking anything else of interest?

We were supposed to go to Charity's house for a potluck dinner a couple weeks ago so I made Kathleen's Coconut Cream Pan Dessert on p.122. It is soooo delicious! Unfortunately, the Scheiler children were sick and dinner was cancelled - so Jerry and I had to eat the whole thing! Actually got a little tired of it by about Thursday.

You ladies are inspiring me! I might just pull out the book and see what looks good for a meal this week. I'm awfully curius what Caramel Nut Rolls I might have contributed!

Here's a small irony - after using the cookbook all day, I just got an email from a lady we know - she wanted my recipe for seafood pasta salad - it's from page 21. So the book's fame is spreading. . .

I should have clarified that the cake I made was not from the K book. It was from bettycrocker.com, which is where I get ALOT of recipes.

And I must say that Ang's Grasshopper Fudge cake was delicious. We had dinner with them and then played racing cars on wii with Nathan - I kept running off the track into a deep, black hole!! In other words I was "bested" by a three-year old!

I just used a new recipe from the K cookbook last week. I took a meal to a friend here in town who had surgery and I made Crystal's Zesty Baked Chicken recipe. It got rave reviews.

I love the Klop cookbook. Mom got me the Roanoke AC cookbook "Cooking on the Prairie" for Christmas. I have been cooking on the prairie several nights a week. I love it!

After watching Julia and Julie last fall I thought it would interesting to cook through the Klopfenstein cookbook. That project apparently ended with the thought.

I just read this post and thought hmmmm.....do I even have a Klopfenstein cookbook? Just checked and sure enough I DON'T! How do I get one? Speaking of baking, though, I've been getting into making 100% whole wheat bread. I actually have a couple loaves rising right now! -Maria
