Big plans for the weekend?

Quite often, people around the office will ask on Friday, "So, do you have big plans for the weekend?" It's usually just a way to keep talking and not working, I think. But it sure does pass the time on dreary Friday's like today. If asked today, I would say, "No, Jerry's got to work. I'll probably clean and grocery shop tomorrow. If the Bears play Sunday, we'll watch that. Nothing's really going on this weekend." So, do you have big plans for the weekend?

The biggest and exciting plans I have for the weekend will be that tomorrow is salsa day. My friend and I have made salsa that last few years and with her busy schedule and my leaving next weekend it appears tomorrow is one of the few days we can make it. I'll let Mary comment on the salsa.

Unfortunately, this has not been a good garden summer so we don't have nearly the number of tomatoes or red and yellow peppers as previous years for our concoction.

It's supposed to rain here most of the weekend which I probably won't be going to the off-road races tomorrow evening. It's a mud-slinging, car crashing race that I never would have dreamed I liked, but it's really a lot of fun. Hudsonville has them about 6 or 7 times throughout the summer and I go a couple of times. As I've said, "I never was a redneck until I moved to Michigan!"

Last of the season neighborhood happy hour is tonight.

Grace and Owen started the soccer season last week. Each has a game this weekend.

I need to cut the grass if it gets dry enough between our current rainstorm and Ike's arrival. If it rains I'll think up some boat project.

And if all goes well, a date with my wife on Sat night.

Plans get no smaller nor better than these.

Joey and I had planned to go to Birmingham for Haley's cross country meet and to visit our 2 girls who live in B'ham; however, there seems to be a "run" on gasoline and many gas stations have run out. Gas has risen above $5 a gallon in some places. Really!

They're saying there's a shortage in 5 southern states. Thankfully I filled up this morning at $3.45 but topped it off this afternoon at $3.98. Eric may have more comments about how it is in B'ham. My dad said if their cars run out of gas they just won't go anywhere! Sounds pretty nice!

Btw, Rhoda's salsa is delicious and we love it when she brings us some! Good thing we'll be seeing her next weekend in Atlanta (hint, hint, hint).

Drake, we used to have at least 3 soccer games on a Saturday . . . enjoy it. I miss those days.

We'll we have the normal planned for the weekend. I'll work in the morning, come home and we'll just hang out all afternoon and evening, probably watch the ballgame. Adrian is going to Alabama Adventure with the youth group.

Sunday we'll go to church, come home and take a nap then go back to evening service and choir practice, you should come with us.

I explained the above no less than 5 times today in response to the "Have any big plans this weekend?" question.

As for gas, it was 3.50 this morning, 4.00 at lunch and 5.00 by 7:00pm. Stations were limiting fill ups to 10 gallons. I have 3 folks who each drive over 1 hour to work each way. They were concerned about their ability to be at work tomorrow due to gas prices and limits. Fun Fun. EDK

Being a villager, and loving quietness, I will work on Saturday, and do some reading on Saturday night. We will attend a picnic Sunday afternoon in Lacon, Illinois with our family to celebrate birthdays -- those of Charity Schieler, Perry Klopfenstein, II, and Ellie Schieler. We will eat at Kenyon's and then retire to a nearby park to open presents and visit.

Perry, I

I have three boys sleeping on the living room floor right now. Shelley and Sam went to a conference in Chicago. Sam's mother has the two babies. Tonight we have family night at Casey and Jamie's. Rest up tomorrow.

I always wondered what the gas price would have to be to stop people from driving. $4.00 didn't do it, but looks like $5.00 might be the magic number. Hope it is temporary for you southern folks, and hope it doesn't migrate up north and hit us!

Sorry Ann, we have a wet, rainy weekend. I thought surely you were getting some rain from all this.

Nope, no rain!

This is a very quiet weekend for me. Mike is working, Andrew is at college, Mary Lee spent the night with a family we know and love and now is at a retreat with some friends of hers. I am at home playing catch-up.

I love this kind of weekend!
