TV COMMERCIALS

My favorite TV commercial is the Subway one where a dorky-type guy is ordering a reuben sandwich and notices that the counter guy's name is Reuben. He then makes a big deal about the name of the sandwich being the same as the guy's name - etc. etc. Usually I tune commercials out after seeing them several times, but this one makes me chuckle every time. If you haven't seen it, watch for it.

My worst one is for Detrol (apparently a bladder control medicine) and is about a teacher in the classroom who has to "go" and when she finally gets to the lady's room, the little silhouette lady from the bathroom door jumps down and walks with her and convinces her she needs Detrol. This one makes me gag!

So . . . what commercials do you like or not like?

That Rueben commercial is especially funny to us because Kelsie works at Subway, and she has to wear the sticker that says, "Hello, My name is Rueben!" She's not too happy about it!

I can't think of commercials I like right now. I usually like the iTunes commercials. I usually do not like Hardee's commercials.

One more thing about the Rueben. Kelsie said people come in and ask for the Rueben, and then she has to ask what kind of bread and everything they want. They tell her just to make a rueben. But she says she doesn't eat ruebens. And then they get mad at her. It doesn't make sense, really, that Subway wouldn't even teach their employees how to make the sandwich!

We love the Sonic drive-in commercials with the people sitting and talking in cars. They're always so dumb that they're funny. Do you have Sonics in the midwest?

I do NOT like the current commercial for paper towels where the husband and son are betting on how many paper towels it will take to clean up the mess off the floor and the lady whips one towel off the roll - I think it's Bounty, and of course that's all it takes. It's run about two or three times on every program lately.

I also don't like the one with the girl in the pink shirt who's walking down the street and raises her arms to show people--then SNIFFS her underarms to tell us how good her deodorant is!

I have the uncanny ability to stare at the screen and appear to be watching a commercial, but when it is over I can tell you nothing about what I saw as I was off in some other world. Makes Dave crazy. Now a lot of TV we watch is taped on our Direct TV and we can fast forward the commercials. I don't know the commercials you are talking about, but one set of commercials that gets my attention are the Comcast turtle commercials.

My favorite commercial is the Aflac duck and Yogi Berra in the barber's chair. With Yogi's naive comments the duck just wrings it's head and walks off. This is one great TV commercial.

Peoria is getting a Sonic, so maybe we'll see some commercials.
I can't stand the Reuben Subway commercials. Nor the Steak n Shake ones - they try to be too clever. But, they are like a dead skunk in the middle of the road -- you don't want to look, but you can't fully resist.
I like the E-Trade baby-speaking ones with the trick photography.
Also, the Aflack duck. Cute!

It's interesting to see what the different commercials are around the country as several of these I've never seen.

I like the Aflac commercials with Yogi Berra and the E-trade talking baby now that they are mentioned, but I know there's another commercial I really like. I'll probably remember what it is long after this post is finished.

I like the commercial for the Tide Stick where the young man is interviewing for a job and the employer can't understand a word he says because his stain is talking louder than him. Funny.

I can just see Kelsie with a Rueben sticker! Grandpa and I had a good laugh at that. I'm like Judy and usually space out during commercials, but occassionally one will catch my attention. Jerry and I both like the Aflac one also. I do not like Hardees and actually do not eat there because of their gross commercials. Lots of competition out there to be clever with the advertising. Sometimes they're so clever that when it's all done, I don't even know what they're promoting! I'm so excited at so many responses!

Sorry I don't know how to spell occassionally. So I just use 2 s's and 2 c's when I'm too lazy to look it up! I don't know why I have a mental block on that word. I've looked it up thousands of times, but it just doesn't stick. So if you noticed the error in the previous post, it wasn't just a typo, it was ignorance.

We DVR almost everything so that we can skip commercials, but my new favorite is the Staples easy button commercial where the lady is sitting in the car at the gas pump, the attendant guy comes to the window and says "that will be $90" (not sure of the exact amount), she hits her easy button and with a huge grin says "now how much is it?", and the guy repeats the price, her face drops and she says "can I put some back?" Makes me laugh every time! ~ RK
