SYRUP OR SUGAR

We had french toast for breakfast this morning. I was taught by Mother to sprinkle sugar on French toast and assume my siblings learned to eat it with sugar also. Jerry, however learned to eat it with syrup. I'm wondering how far down the Klop line the "sugar thing" has trickled. What do you use? Sugar or Syrup?

Never heard of sugar for french toast. I'll bet once she was out of syrup and told all of you sugar was just as good, just like a good mother would! Do your kids eat sugar on french toast? Is this good for pancakes or waffles too?
Dave uses jelly sometimes...also yuck to me.

Well, Ada is on a good track--sugar on French toast as our mother brought us up! However, to show you the influence of a wife on her man, Mim has taught me about syrup, powdered sugar and of all things, preserves! I tell her she is a true believer that "variety is the spice of life", and she has swayed me over.

For the most part, our Saturday morning breakfast is buttermilk pancakes. mmmmmmmmmmmmm--good!!!
We'll gladly share the recipe if you are interested. She uses preserves and I use syrup.

When grandchildren are here, they like crepes and, in my opinion, the best covering is powdered sugar and syrup combined.

I could do either. At home, I would probably do sugar. In a restaurant, I would probably do butter and syrup.

What I'm noticing is that Aunt Ada uses sugar learned from her mother, and I learned syrup from my mother. I'm wondering if Aunt Catherine used syrup with her kids so they use syrup as well.

If so, it appears we use whatever our mothers used.
