Regarding groceries...

Maybe better read the first post I wrote to have this make sense!

Now on to the grocery store...usually Walmart. I hate getting groceries. I consider it a cruel practice of self-denial. I walk in the door and on the right are cookies and cupcakes. Can't have that. Down the center aisle are sales on potato chips...can't have that. Down the ice cream aisle...shouldn't have that. Over to see two nice red steaks in a package...25 bucks...can't buy that. And so it goes...
I walk out with a gallon of milk, a box of Cheerios, maybe a bag of apples, and my staple snack, a bag of popcorn. Lunch meat and bread if we need it. Maybe another reason I'm in a bad mood by the time I reach the poor, innocent check-out girl...so off I drive to the fast food drive-thru...I know it doesn't make sense!

Mom,

Since you're telling drive-thru stories, you have to share the one when you went to Wendy's and 'waited' forever for your food. Me and Sam were laughing about it again just the other day.

Yeah, another embarrassing moment! I was sitting at the drive-thru waiting on my food. This time the weather was nice, the cashier was friendly, and I proceeded to visit with her, while waiting patiently for her to hand me my order. We talked about the beautiful budded tree next to the lane, etc., etc. She kept looking at me, and I even reminded her to make sure it was lettuce, tomato, and onion only on my sandwich as so often a sandwich comes wrong....Finally, she said she better get back to work, and when I turned my head slightly, I saw that my order had been sitting in my car, carefully handed out and placed by me long ago, getting cold while I "waited" and chatted with the poor lady at the window.

Might not be so funny in the retelling here, but my kids don't let me live it down. Oh, the many more stories I could tell...

Kathleen and I once went to the local A&W for some root beer and they were "out of root beer". I told them that's like Starbucks being out of coffee. Pitiful.

Judy it is funny reading it!

I was with a friend at a drive thru, ordered and paid for it at the same window you picked up the food. We drove away and at the next intersection realized we hadn't waited for the food. Even she didn't catch it as we pulled away.

Judy, I can't laugh too much at you--One time I drove away from a gas station without taking the nozzle out of the gas tank!

Here's our story:

Keith and I were coming home from an operetta at Lauren's school and stopped at McDonalds in Morton to get a Sundae. It was about 11:00 PM. We placed our order and waited and waited and waited -- never did get to the window to pay. There were about 4 cars ahead of us. We were so disgusted we drove off. Sure wonder what they did with those Sundaes!

I'm remembering when Grandma K said
"When I forget. it's senility. When you all forget it's no big deal." That's paraphrased, but I sure identify with it. Mim

We have a Walmart store manager in our SS class. I always feel sorry for him on Sunday morning. The girls get talking about this or that which happened at Walmart. Meanwhile, Scott is sitting there making his to-do list of employees to reprimand on Monday when he goes into the store. Funny thing is, he can usually name the employee and where in the store it occurred just by listing to the girls say what the incident or frustration was.

Funny grandma comment...it's true, the older you get the more you don't want your kids to know what you forget or the dumb things you do! Don't want to get that label "getting old!"

And just one more word on Walmart. Even though we have our frustrations and gripes, we have to remember what a great time and country we live in...anything we want at our fingertips, food to enjoy and throw away our leftovers, clothing to take to Goodwill with the tags still on because an impulsive buy didn't work out...we are so greatly blessed and rich in the world's scheme of things. I'm preaching to myself first, as they say...we ought to knock off the complaining and thank God for our bountiful blessings!
