GPS

I'm thinking of purchasing a portable GPS and wondering if any of you have one and have any advice about which to get.
Which brand is best? I've pretty much narrowed it down to Garmin and TomTom.
Is street name pronunciation an important feature?
Any other things I definitely need to look for?

Thanks!

I got a Garmin after traveling with a co-worker who had one. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I do like it alot. I turn off the voice feature because the pronunciation sounds funny and it's just distracting anyway. I'm amazed at how the thing works. It's alot of fun.

Angela,
What model did you get?

Rhoda,
Kathleen and I have a Garmin 330 -- the basic model from 2 years ago for well under $200. It has just the basics, not all the bells and whistles of today's $500+ models. Tom Tom's are good, too.
We enjoy it, especially on vacation as it truly works well and accurately, even telling you which lane to get into for an upcoming exit. Our lovely female voice (we call her "Henrietta") saves us much frustration. She gets a little frustrated, however, when we turn off for gas or to eat, so we turn her off at those moments. She also tells us instantly about all restaurants, motels, attractions, etc.in the area, and how far away, upon our request. We figure if Henrietta saves us just one minor marital "disagreement" while finding our way in unfamiliar territory, she's worth it. The best part is that now I NEVER have to be told to stop and ask for directions!

Mine is the Nuvi 350. I think it cost about $350. Like Cleve's, mine also gets angry when I try to go my own way. It keeps directing me to turn around until finally it just readjusts and sends me different way. It's funny!
