I have never seen the picture of Mother out on the back patio.
She looks very relaxed, don't you think? We used to have a
bushel basket full of clothes to be ironed. As Ada said they
were all dampened and rolled up. Oh, I did not like to start
on that big pile of clothes. Dad's shirts were the hardest.
He wore a shirt and tie to the grain office every day. I don't
ever remember seeing him in a sport shirt.
Mother would hang all the clothes outside (no dryers) and in
the winter a lot of the clothes would be frozen when she brought
them in the house.
Were those the "good old days"?

We would like to reminisce and think of them as "the good old days" but I don't think any of us would like to go back and live without our modern conveniences. Rememberance is sometimes better that the actuality. I mostly think of Mother working around the kitchen and yard - always with nylons on. And when she had to go uptown she got her shopping dress out of that closet in the kitchen and changed from her work dress, reversing the procedure when she got home.
