Who knows who this friend of Dad's is? Dad looks like John Travolta in this picture!
This picture is so damaged, but it's pretty special. Jay looks like the Bruce I remember, and Lynn looks like Mark at that age, don't you think?
And this one! Who is getting a scolding here? and why, I wonder?
Hope these brightened your day!

Very interesting. And the bottom one is funny!
Kenny Gerig is the person with RDK.
I remember some of the GCHS class of 1945: RDK, Cousin Carlton (Carsh), Catherine, Kenny Gerig, Larry Ellenberger, Vic Rich, Jeanne McCullough (she & Vic married).
Uncle Lynn got Kenny Gerig identified before I could make a comment. They 2 remained good friends throughout life. Other classmates included Bob Gramm, Jean Schlipf Hodel, Winifred Schlipf, and Bob Kearney (who later worked for Dad for many years in the 1960's at the grain elevator). Other trivia facts per the 1945 Gridley High Pylon yearbook:
A. The high school was built in 1906
B. After being declared an "official" high school in 1919, The school became "Gridley Community High School" in 1936.
C. Home Ec and Ag Depts. were formed in 1937
D. The gymnasium was dedicated in 1940
E. Gridley's first high school was founded in 1892, on Woodford and Fourth Streets (better known as Heiple's yard).
Also in 1945:
School Board Pres. was Will Gramm.
Mr. Hill was teaching math.
Basketball Coach was E.W. Towner
Ralph K: "on 'fair' days Ralph can really run a half mile"
Catherine Slagell: "Catherine goes steady during the school year, but in the summer..."
Vic Rich: "Vic was a villain in every high school play in which he took part".
CLASS PROPHECY OF CLASS OF '45:
Ralph -- "Coach Carlton Klopfenstein's Fighting Illini were victorious in the playoff for the National Collegiate Championship. They defeated the mighty DePaul boys who are coached by the veteran mentor, Ralph Klopfenstein, by a score of 65-64".
Catherine -- "Catherine Slagell is now in France putting the finishing touches on her modeling career. She was seen on the "Look" last week and has been nominated for "National Pin-up Girl of 1950."
Class Will: Ralph -- Ralph K. wills his athletic ability to Paul Reeves.
Catherine: Catherine Slagell wills her ability to go steady to Helen Rinkenberger and John Kahle.
Uncle Lynn was a Freshman along with Jane Ellenberger, John Schlipf, Ann Freed, and (my Uncle) Burdell Slagell. Uncle Lynn was elected President of his class and also wrote the Sports section of the Gridlite.
....and as it further reads....
Cleve, very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to add all of that. I had no idea that Dad was freshmen class president.
