Mara's Heart Surgery

Some of you have seen these pictures on FB, but I will post them here for those who didn't. Mara had a heart stent placed today. It was about a 4 hour procedure and the doctor assured Casey and Jamie that it went well. She stayed in the hospital overnight for observation and then they will run some tests tomorrow to make sure everything is in place and working well, and then she should be able to go home.

Pre-Surgery

You can see in the top view the constriction of the artery...almost looks like a sausage string it is so closed off. In the bottom view you can see that it has been opened considerably. Casey and Jamie are wondering how they will handle all the extra energy this girl will have.

Looking good after recovery. She got a new American Girl doll as a surprise.

I saw where Mara had had surgery, but figured it was a tonsillectomy or something more routine. So glad to hear that she came through it fine! Had they known of heart issues for some time or was this new news? We will be in prayer for her as she continues to recuperate. Thanks much for posting.

Sam had heard a heart murmur since she was an infant and at this age and getting more active in sports, he recommended that she see a pediatric cardiologist. She had no symptoms to this point and has been an active child. She should be able to live a normal life after recuperating from this, but will probably have to have the procedure repeated in her late teens when she reaches her adult size.

Glad to hear of the successful surgery and the good spirits afterward. X-rays are an amazing thing and glad Mara is now on the road to recovery.

The pictures are excellent! We're so glad she is doing well and that they could fix it. That is quite an experience for a young girl to get through. --- Carol
