What Are You Cooking?

We've not had a lot of activity on here lately as far as posting (thanks Ada for your regular ones, and thanks EDK for yours last night) but I know lots of Klops are still reading, because I occasionally check the stats and the number of "hits" has not decreased. (Anyone can check the stats from your dashboard if you are signed in.). So I have a question for you: It's the weekend, some of you may be having a Super Bowl party tomorrow night, or doing something else, but what is the most interesting thing you are stirring up in the kitchen this weekend? And, to quote Ada from her similar post back in February 2009, just humor the old girl!!!

We're hosting a few families for the Super Bowl. I have 2 dozen homemade potato skins in the freezer. I make baked potato soup regularly in the winter and make up the skins at the same time.

I'll be listening to the Superbowl on the Sirius in the car as I drive north. I'm picking up our new HR manager at Midway and traveling on to Holland MI Sunday evening.

As for the kitchen, I made eggs in the mircrowave and everybody else just "picked" at stuff this evening. Not much cooking going on here today.

Scratch that, Retta woke up from her nap and had me throw some steaks on the grill. She also put a roast in the crock pot for lunch tomorrow after church (before I hit the road).

Last night I made a soup recipe from Mike's sister that was kinda interesting--browned ground chicken, tomatoes, carrots, onions, chicken broth, and spinach. Mike had a bad cold and said that soup really hit the spot. Tonight I made himemade french fries and blue cheese burgers, and promptly dropped the drip pan from the griddle. Grease covered a quarter of the kitchen floor and immediately solidified. What a mess.

Today, we had cheerios for breakfast in our room, pizza for lunch along the Ft. Lauderdale beachfront, bought a candy bar at a CVS in order to get some cash-back, had a piece of Italian Wedding Cake from Publix, and after reading & sleeping on the beach for a couple hours, had an ice cream cone for dinner. Yep, good, healthy day of eating for us!!

Hoping to have dinner with Emmy Steffen tomorrow evening.

What people eat is fun to know. Let's see: Today I had two sausage mcmuffins for breakfast. I took out half the sausage on the first one and all of it on the second one. (The only reason I had two was I had a coupon for buy one get one free.) For lunch I had a cup of peach yogurt--Prairie Farms--yummy! I also had a clementine. For supper I had a small hamburger, baked beans, cantaloup, carrot sticks. I had two little pieces of mint three muskateers at the store as a snack before coming home. When I got home, I had a couple handfulls of mixed nuts. I drank only water today besides a little bit of coffee before I left home this morning.

The only thing cooked up in my kitchen yesterday was a pan of boiled brussel sprouts...can you believe that's a snack for me? And Dave put all new black electrical outlets in the new backsplash.

I made potato soup earlier in the week so finished that this weekend. Saturday evening we went to Carabba's (threw this in for Ann!) where I had a margherita pizza. Tonight I'm at a Super Bowl party with about 5-6 people. We're having chicken wings from Costco (sorry, Dad), chips with my salsa and a cheese dip, veggies, fruit, and a Snicker football ice cream cake from Aldi. Hmmm, not a lot of cooking going on this weekend apparently.

Speaking of foods, I find it interesting to look at shopping carts ahead of me when waiting in the checkout lanes in the grocery store. The contents of the cart provide an index into the eating habits and the spending habits of the purchaser. It would be interesting to know how this relates to the actual finaancial condition of that particular individual.

Mom, I do that as well.
