Yesterday was the Livingston County Fair and Wade and Mara both entered the ring to show their heifer.
Wade showed his in Showmanship and as a 4-H project.
Mara showed the same cow in the PeeWee Showmanship Division.
Wade was disappointed in his results (interpreted mad!) but I was amazed at both of them to even work with such a beast! And my prayers were answered that no one got hurt...a successful fair morning for me!

They both look so cute. I'd sure never get so close to that cow!! Maybe they'll get a blue ribbon with another project - what else did they take?
I agree-it's a beast and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get that close to it.
What a great experience for them!
Wade got blue ribbons in microwave cooking (fudge), photography, woodworking, and one for the heifer though he was the only one in his class.
It was so hot Wed morning. I notice that not one person in the ring is ever smiling. It is tense, the cows are frothing at the mouth, and a bit unruly. None of the kids are scared of their cow, but look terrified that the animal might get out of control at any moment, at which point it could get serious.
