I was wondering if there are any copies left of the old version of the Klopfenstein Cookbook. I think it had a yellow cover. Mom had one I used a lot when I was in high school, and I think Ann had one we used when we lived together. Ann made the most wonderful hot fudge sauce!! Remember that, Ann?
I was just thinking of it this morning, as it had a delicious lemon dessert squares recipe I would like to make. (Maybe that recipe is also in the new version??? - didn't take the time to check.) Well anyhow, if anyone knows, let me know. Thanks!

P.S. Ada, your bedroom/bath is beautiful!

Thanks for the compliment, Cathy. I love to stand in the door and look at our new room - :)!
I still have that cookbook - all falling apart, but I use it sometimes. The recipe you are probably talking about is from Alice. Kinda long, but here it is:
LEMON DESSERT
1 C flour
1 stick oleo
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Mix all together until crumbly. Press into 9X13 pan and bake for 15 minutes at 375. Cool.
1 - 8oz cream cheese (softened)
1 C powdered sugar
Beat until very smooth and fluffy. Fold in 1 C cool whip. Spread over crust. Put in refrigerator.
2 pkgs. instant lemon pudding
3 C milk
Beat until thick - 2 or 3 minutes. Spread over cream cheese layer and put in fridge. Top with 1/2 pint whipping cream (whipped). Chill 6 hours or overnight. Serves 12. Do not freeze.
This a delicious desert and used to be very popular. It is also good with chocolate pudding.
Enjoy!!
Cathy - is that the recipe you were looking for? I thought I had that old cookbook, but went to find it, and what I have is an old Rassi cookbook from Mom's side. It has the caramel corn recipe that we used to make - do you remember that one? It even has a notation next to it where Toots proclaimed it "Delicious 11-10-76."
Yes, I remember eating hot fudge sauce - didn't we even have it for breakfast sometimes??? I think it's this one from memory:
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 tbsp. butter
1 cup corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
Melt chocolate and butter very gently - preferably over hot water. Slowly stir in corn syrup. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
I think it was called "glossy chocolate sauce" from an old Betty Crocker cookbook of Mom's.
Thanks, girls! Yes, these were the recipes I was thinking of. We're having the lemon dessert tonight. Ann, I had forgotten about eating ice cream for breakfast! Oh to be young again.
But then I guess you can have ice cream with chocolate sauce for breakfast when you're old, too, huh? :)
Yes, Cathy, you can - it just goes to undesirable places when you're old. :-)
A few weeks ago I found an easy recipe for chocolate sauce. It's not only easy, it has ingredients you (I) normally have in my cabinet. I rarely use corn syrup so don't keep it on hand. Here it is - and to me it tasted just as good as any other chocolate sauce. (Not trying to upstage you Ann - but had thought about posting this recipe anyway.)
Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 2/3 cups brown sugar
1 1/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cocoa, sugar and water.
2. Bring to a slow boil and let boil 1 minute.
3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
4. Serve warm
Both these hot fudge recipes sound dlicious. Not trying to "one-up" either of you, but here is MY Hot Fudge Sauce - similar, yet a little different. (I usually double it)
1 C sugar
2 T bocoa
2 T butter (or marg)
sm. can evap milk
1 tsp vanilla
Stir sugar & cocoa over low heat for 2 minutes. Add butter and blend. Add milk. Stir constantly and boil 5 minutes. Add vanilla. Thickens as it cools. Serve warm.
If we all get together sometime, we can make all three and have a
taste-testing party until we all get sick!! My granddaughters love my hot fudge.
Cathy, how do you get your picture in the comment?
It's been so long ago . . . I think if you click on your name you'll get to your "Profile". If you "Edit Profile" there is a place to download a picture from your computer files. See if that works.
