Got a question for you. I was thinking the other day about that large painting that hung over the couch in the living room of Grandma K's living room in her "new" house. It used to fascinate me, and I would study it for hours, because the scene was so beautiful, and the way the artist used a knife to slap paint on thickly was such an interesting technique. I also remember that it had a large, ornate, beautiful frame.
So the questions, plural, are: Whatever happened to that painting? Do you remember it, and if so, what about it? Also - I was thinking that maybe Marty painted it? or maybe Grandma and I just used to talk about Marty being an artist and therefore I've associated it with him.
And what exactly was the scene? It's kinda weird to remember so much about a painting and yet not really remember exactly what it was.

I remember there was a beautiful picture there, but can't visualize what it was. I do know that "us kids" took everything that was in that house - so someone might kept it or they might still have it. Wasn't me so it was one of my five siblings.
I have a faint memory of a painting too. And the other day I was thinking of her candy "bowl" in the kitchen cupboard. I would go to it often and try real hard not to take the best thing...usually a Hershey bar or other large candy bar. I felt like I would be "caught" for taking the best stuff. Anybody remember what kind of container and what color it was? I can picture it clearly.
I remember the picture too, but can't describe it. It came from Sauder Furniture in Roanoke.
Mother specifically named several things that were to go to her children. Ralph & Catherine got the picture. As I recall they had it in their living room in the four-plex in Gridley. They might have had it in their condo in Bloomington. Mother said I was to get the sterling silver silverware.
Does anyone remember the specific thing Mother named for them?
Among lots of household furniture and items, Mim and I chose the long living room couch. It has been a winner for many years. I slept on it for about six weeks after hip replacement 12/09. It was great!
I don't recall any specific designation by Mother. We all just divided up each room. I thought it all worked very well.
I thought possibly that Mom and Dad had the painting. With Aunt Alice's memory confirming it, I would now guess that Jamie took the painting when we divided up Mom and Dad's stuff. I just remember a lot of green in the painting. Jamie,if you read this, let us know what you can.
Was it a water scene? Or a woods scene? I remember tall trees that the artist portrayed perfectly.
I was fortunate enough to have Grandma give me the small pendulum "grandfather clock" (which hung on her wall). The reason is because I had given it to her from Vietnam in 1971-- I ordered it out of the Army PX Catalog and had it sent to her. To this very moment it hangs in our dining room and works perfectly.
I still have the hide-a-bed sofa from the den. It was in my apartment in Morton and house in Peoria, and then Mary had it in her backroom for guests. I got it back when I moved to OH and not to MI.
I also ended up with the recliner from the den. When a spring sprung in the back, I bought a new recliner, but a friend's sister took it for her dorm room. Knowing that much of my furniture had names such as Grandma K., Grandma Hemmer, Aunt Louise, etc. based on who it came from my friend said, "Grandma's going to college!"
Rhoda has long teased that she decorates in "Dead Relative"!
Well, what I ended up with is Grandma's little green sewing box that she kept by her rocker in the den. It isn't very valuable but the memories of it are invaluable!
I think we may have the picture. We got it when Grandma and Grandpa were giving away items from their condo before moving into Grandma's current apartment. Casey and Jamie drove it down to Houston along with a few other items including Grandma's white couch which is now in our study. The picture hung over our living room fireplace until very recently when we moved it into the master bedroom. We love it! It is so beautiful!

Jamie, You'll need to start a new post on the blog. You'll have to log into "blogger" & create the post. One the page where you enter the blog post information, you select the picture icon from the tool bar above where you type the blog information. Browse for the photo and upload it. Hope these directions aren't too confusing. EDK
