SNOW-DAY ACTIVITIES

For those of you who don't live around here, we've had a big blizzard going on since about 9 am. Church was cancelled - which is kinda exciting like school being called off. But, on the other hand, we missed hearing a sermon and seeing our friends, and just didn't quite know what to do with our time. Jerry suggested making cookies. We turned on a Christmas cd and got out the baking stuff!
This picture is looking through the screen on our deck where
you can almost see an evergreen in the back yard, but we have not seen
our neighbors' homes back there all day.
Jerry made sugar cookie dough, rolled it out, cut it,
frosted the cookies and ate a few. Yummy!
I made some marshmallow white-chocolate peppermint lollipops
similar to some I saw in boxes of four for $7.95 at Crate & Barrel in Chicago.
Pretty sweet, but good one at a time!
We have a ham baking in the oven, the Bears are getting clobbered, hope to get some presents wrapped tonight, and might make another batch of cookies. I'm having the quilting ladies in for lunch on Wednesday and Jerry's volunteer friends on Thursday. The cookies will be desert. The lunch will be Pepperidge Farm pastry puff shells with chicken pot pie filling - not sure of side dish yet.
SO what did you do with your Sunday at home?

We did have church today, but Keith and I decided to stay home. The wind was furious and it was snowing (a real blizzard). We listened to our church service via the telephone. Tim Roecker had the sermon. This afternoon I made party mix and we both took a nap.
This evening I think we will start Christmas Cards. Oh, and we are watching the Illini play Northern Colorado.

This morning,Preston, Perry and I listened to an old sermon tape from 1971 of Noah Schrock. This afternoon we listened to another one. Perry II and Joan came for supper and later, Charity brought the children over to play games. Preston took his dogs out for exercise and Perry, Sr. went for a walk. I never ventured out all day. It turned out to be a very nice day for us!

Not a day off for me, but Saturday we had rain that was supposed to turn to snow giving us up to 4" Saturday night. I woke up Sunday morning and we had no snow! Then the forecast for yesterday was up to "another" 4" of snow through the day and night with blustery winds. We got the winds, but again no snow. Apparently it went north and south of my county.

However, I did have kind of a snow day as I stayed in after church--made pumpkin chocolate chip bread, graded papers, and watched various football games.

We were able to have church in the morning, but our Christmas Program scheduled for the evening was canceled due to the wind and drifting snow. Amber was to be Mary in the live nativity, Retta was helping in the kitchen with snacks and I was going to be Santa Claus. Yes, we have a Santa Claus at our Christmas Program, red suit, white beard and all. It's has been postponed to next Sunday afternoon. We had several kids from church over in the afternoon to play in the snow, drink hot chocolate and watch movies. It was a relaxing afternoon/evening at home. EDK
