Felt the Earthquake!

As usual, I was on the couch at 4 am, awake and resting. I felt a very tiny shiver through the couch, and thought to myself...that was an earthquake! I felt the same thing years ago when we lived in La Grange...same exact feeling. I'm sure you Chicago area folks really felt it!

About five years ago I woke up at 4:00 and thought one of the kids was gently shaking my bed to wake me up. . .until I remembered that they were in their teens and would no longer use that method to wake Mom up. . .then realized, "This is an earthquake!" Sure enough, there was one of about the same magnitude as this morning's quake, centered in southeastern Tennessee. It's a memorable feeling, isn't it.

Supposedly the earthquake was felt in west Michigan but was not awakened by it as I have been other quakes.

I remember an earthquake in Illinois I think the summer of 1987 that occurred early evening. I was eating with friends and we all felt it, but it was such a weird thing that no one wanted to say anything unless they were the only one who felt something.

I remember the earthquake in 87. I was at the FFA convention in the basketball stadium at U of I and it felt like someone was kicking the back of your chair in the stadium. I didn't feel the one this morning.

I did not feel this one, but I felt one a couple years ago. I thought a wet dog was shaking off under my bed! Then I remembered we didn't have a dog!

I didn't feel this one, but I did feel one several years ago. I was sitting on the couch waiting on Keith to go to church and I felt like the cushion was moving a little. I wondered if there was a mouse under the couch. When we got to church the first thing Bob Pflederer said was did anyone feel the earthquake? That was the first we knew. I was sure glad it wasn't a mouse!!

I slept through the quake yesterday. I remember the one in the Summer of '87.

Woke both Jason and me up. The house shook and the windows rattled, but only for a few seconds. Thankfully, the boys did not wake up -- I don't think we could have coaxed them back to sleep after that!

I felt (and heard) the one in 1968 that Judy felt. I was in the ISU college library at the time. In 1987, Kathleen and I were in the car with Aaron's Little League leaning on our car talking through the window. I accused him of shaking my car when we both realized it was an earthquake. And, yes, I felt the one at 4 a.m. a few years ago when it shook the bed. I even got up to watch CNN until they verified it was an earthquake...then went back to bed.
