Unexpected Riches?

In researching unclaimed funds recently, I found quite a few Klopfensteins in Illinois who have money to claim. I didn’t look for any other names except for my work project.

You can click here to look for money in Illinois or click here for links to all 50 states.

It's interesting what I'm finding for work but nothing yet for me personally.

A couple years ago, Jerry's name was on one of those lists and we follwed the instructions. Months later we got some form to fill out and I don't think we ever heard anything. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I think basically it wasn't enough money to qualify or something. We thought maybe "our ship had come in", but I guess not.

Dad's name came up on one of those lists soon after his death. I pursued it and he soon received a check for $2.79 from a grain elevator near Bloomington.

I hope no one spent the entire $2.79 in one place!

Some states give actual amounts and others just say <$100 or something like that.

One thing I've learned at work is the amount of time and effort that must go into returning this money. Most states have different regulations that make it extremely difficult for businesses to follow all the regulations.
