WHAT A DIFFERENCE 20 YEARS MAKES!

I'm sure you will recognize these pictures. The one of Alice and Perry was probably taken in about 1940. Maybe Alice can give some details about that picture. Maybe Easter Sunday?
The second picture was taken in Colorado Springs. That summer I was 19 years old and Mother and I drove to California, stopping in Colorado to visit Perry who was stationed at Camp Carson (hope I have that right, Perry.) Keith and Alice were on their annual vacation to Colorado at the same time. We had a great time together.
On a side note: the night before Mother and I left, Jerry called me to ask me out on our first real date - we had had a coke at the "Cage" earlier. I had to tell him I was going to be gone for a month or so and was afraid he'd never call me back later in the summer. But, obviously he did and we've lived happily ever after!
Another tidbit about that trip, after we left Colorado, Mother was driving in the mountains, went over a hill and at the bottom of the hill was a traffic backup and she rearended a car. No major damage on either car, but at the next town, I took my turn to drive, and I think I did all the driving for the remainder of the trip. Can't you just see me, small town girl, flying around on the "freeways" in Los Angeles!

I had to think, in today's world, Jerry would have been able to call you, text you, even send you e-mails throughout your whole trip on your Blackberry. I think I like the old way better.

What was the year, make, model, and color of the car you took on that trip?

We took the trip in the summer of 1962. We had a blue Buick LeSabre (I think - it was one with 3 holes on the side.) That was in the days before air-conditioned cars, but Mother had Rebbec's put an air-conditioner in that sat under the dash in the front seat. We always had to turn it off if we were idling for very long so it wouldn't burn up!

That Grandma was an adventuresome and industrious woman!

Great pic, even of Larry J. in your arms. The car had to be the 1961 Buick LeSabre that I remember sitting in the middle front seat all the way to Monticello to the Meiss reunion with Grandma & Grandpa K. You're right about the add-on air-conditioner -- it blew nice cold air all the way on that hot July day. It also had a Sonamatic push-button AM. radio.

Well, Cleve, I'm sorry to say you're in error. Since Grandpa K. died in March of 1960 (when I was a junior in HS), he could not have been in the car in 1961, or in the summer of 1960 - perhaps the reunion you went to was 1959? which makes the car older than we thought. You've got me curious now.

By the way, can you still name every car you see on the highway like you could when you were about 6-7 years old?

Thanks, Ada. I'm not too proud to say that I was wrong. I do know I went to the Meiss Reunion in Monticello, Indiana in that Buick sitting in the middle front seat in front of the air-conditioner and the Sonamatic Radio. It was the beautiful baby-blue Buick which, after looking up the picture in my CAR I.D. book, was a 1960 model. So, not sure who was driving and who I was sitting between. Yes, I can still name every car and make, but starting losing track since about 1980 -- TOO MANY MODELS.... Perhaps I'll post a picture of my 1964 Buick convertible that I'm driving around currently on nice-weather days.
