Cold and Wet

Well, today's been an interesting day for sure. Last night we had hard freeze warnings, and I always have to chuckle at the "precautions" I sometimes see others take. Well, mid-morning today Retta called and we had a water pipe in our attic freeze and when it thawed, water came pouring into the house. Even though the pipe was insulated by the attic batting, it wasn't enough being on the outside wall by the roof eve.

Now, we have to have a new kitchen and bathroom ceiling put in, new floors (laminate) in the kitchen, office and hallway. New carpet in the laundry room and who knows what else yet. They are not sure if they need to replace the insulation and drywall on the outside kitchen wall yet.

So tonight we are at a Fairfield Inn & Suites (very nice BTW) while our house is dried out by the "Restoration" experts. Retta's getting to know our insurance agent very well. She's in a rental car because our van is in the shop getting body work done because somebody backed into us in the parking lot of our favorite Chinese Restaurant.

Two lessons learned: It does pay to have insurance & Don't make fun of those who worry about the cold weather.

How awful for you. When it is all done, you will have a new kitchen and a beautiful van, but the hassle and physical and mental effort can wear you down. Wish I was there to help!

How frustrating! Especially considering how much time and effort you have put into your kitchen and all the new flooring since you moved in. Hopefully you're at least enjoying your little 'vacation' at the hotel. Glad your insurance company is coming through for you. I get frustrated with how much we spend for insurance, but when something like this happens I'm sure you're glad to have it.

Sorry to hear about this - must be a real mess. Sounds like you were able to get the proper help right away and hope the restoration goes smoothly and quickly. Hope the Fairfield has a pool for the kids.
