THE POLLS IN GRIDLEY

Jerry and I went down to the "hard road" for breakfast before he left to volunteer at the hospital this morning. On the way home, I drove past Gridley's polling place. Both Center Street and Third Street were lined with cars and as I peeked in the door, I could see there was actually a line waiting to vote. I'll vote later today.

It will be an interesting night tonight.

I was in line to vote this morning by 6:50 and had an hour-long wait in the various lines. By the time I got done the line was much longer. You're right, it will be an interesting night.

Polls opened at 7:00am at my polling place. When I drove by at 6:30am there was already a line out the door. EDK

I drove by at 8:10 and no line. I didn't actually go to vote until about noon after a dental appointment (no cavities!). I walked right in and right through the line. However, apparently at 6:40 a.m. the line was already out the door (15 yards or so) and down to the post office (probably 50-60 yards). I drove by other polling places and saw no lines. In addition to the presidential vote, Michigan has two big proposals on the ballot including legalized medical marijuana and increased embryonic stem cell research.

I waited til about 9:30 a.m. to vote to avoid lines, but found about 8 in front of me. In most elections I have no line in front of me. It took people a looooooong time to cast their votes...computerizied ballots which were also confusing to me, but I finally got it accomplished. I can't imagine how a much older person with no computer savvy would ever manage on his/her own. Crystal pre-voted last week, but when the election judge tore out my page to be signed, under my name was Crystal's. She asked "Where's Crystal?"...... WOULD SHE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COME IN AGAIN AND VOTE???? There's going to be MUCH
contention, fraud, and accusing over the vote count. And, a late night tonight.

It's interesting that you're "high-tech" in Peoria, Cleve. In Gridley we voted with a black marker and colored in the circle! We're going baaaaackwards!!

Jerry and I commented that you'd think there would be a national system with all the technology available.

I did not get to vote...I will not be 18 for a few more months (I wish I could have)

but it has proved to be a very interesting night and a huge turning point in American history!

ferWhen Keith and I voted there was no line, but they said they had been very busy all day. We had the old fashioned way of voting too, a black marker to fill the circle.
We were happy that Aaron Schock won his senate race against Coleen Callahan! We stayed up until after President elect Obama gave his acceptance speech. What a crowd in Grant Park.

Kathleen and I did indeed go to the Victory Party for Aaron Schock who won his U.S. Congressional race 59% - 38% (Green party got 3%). He gave a nice acceptance speech amidst a packed crowd of about 500. He was out this morning at 5 a.m. at Caterpillar shaking hands and thanking voters...his tradition after each of his 4 political victories at age 27.
