Grandmother's prerogative

Mark told me last night that the doctor authorized seven year old Jeffrey to shed the binding or whatever it is that immobilized his arm following a greenstick collar bone fracture. Molly told him he could get rid of the binding, which was filled with autographs. His reply: "I think I'll put it in my closet so that in thirty years, I'll remember who my friends were."

In raising 4 children, I don't believe we ever had experience with a cast. When I was a kid I thought that cast-signing was pretty neat, so I agree with Jeffrey on that part. However, one of my BIG hangups is "body claustraphobia," which basically means I can't stand not being able to separate body parts, like fingers being held together, being wrapped in sheets so that I can't free my limbs, OR having a cast on an arm or leg where I wouldn't be able to extend it completely. Even seeing someone else immoblized like that gives me the willies. Just another little revelation about my silly little fears.

Mom, thanks for sharing this story as I hadn't heard it yet.

Of course, I tolf it at work today during our cookie exchange and my co-workers were quite impressed with a 7-year old's ability to look past today to 30 years down the road.

Of course, I'm a bit prejudiced but I agreed.
