"Amazing Grace" is the gripping story of William Wilberforce, the man most responsible for getting a law through the House of Commons to end transporting Africans for slavery in the last half of the 1700's and early 1800's. He was born in well-to-do circumstances and became a Christian while attending the church John Newton pastored. Newton, the author of the hymn "Amazing Grace", has a prominent role in the DVD as he continues to be haunted by his cruelties to slaves being transported under unbelievably inhumane conditions--this in the days before he repented for his wicked lifestyle. We rented the DVD as a holiday extra only to learn that the Medlens already owned it! This is a thought provoker and soberer (new word!) well worth your time.
We second that thought, it is well worth the watching. Retta checked it out of the church library one Sunday and I expect to very quickly sleep through it. I believe I actually saw most of it the first time through. The second time we checked it out, I saw it all. Yes, it was even worth the second watch with kids! EDK
